Australian Blue Mussels are a healthy, versatile and easy to prepare meal. They lend themselves to a range of cooking styles – from traditional "moules & frites" (mussels and chips) to Asian curries; cream and wine sauces, boulibaisea and paellas…………the options are countless.

"The bottom line is that if the mussel is fresh, you cook it and it doesn't open, but it smells good, it’s more than fine to eat" Chef Michael Bacash – Bacash Restaurant, Melbourne

Step by step preparation

  • Wash the mussels briefly in cold water if not prepacked
  • Discard mussels that won't close when tapped
  • Remove the beard with a knife if it hasn't been removed already
  • Mussels can be cooked in less than 3 minutes when steamed in a pot with a tight fitting lid.
